Reads unit->unit.player_index (+0x1C8 via unit_get, which the target confirms
by passing mask 3), and maps it through player_get to local_player_index (+2 in
player_datum).
Branch polarity is the load-bearing detail: writing the NONE check as an early
return puts the cold path inline and leaves 28 bytes off. Testing the positive
case and returning NONE at the end reproduces January's layout (je to an
out-of-line tail) exactly. The ternary form is 7 off, a result-variable form 31.
Verified strict; player_control now 37 exact.
