Live 2026-10-18: the palm menu opened the Steam menu mid-calibration, and three dots were taken 17-35 degrees from where the user looked (both trackers agreed). Real dots in that session were at most 8.9 degrees off by SteamVR. - gazecheck: our tracker's full calibration turns a dot down when SteamVR's two eyes' mean is over LOOKED_AWAY (15 deg) from it, past their median offset in this calibration (from 3 dots taken). ft-eyes isn't asked; the panel says "you looked away from the dot". A third dot in a row like that is SteamVR being off: taken, and the check stops for that calibration. - The pointer helper passes "calpanel 1|0" on to ft-screens, and the palm menu waits while a calibration panel is up. looked-away-test.py drives Checks.capture with synthetic looks; the first-calibration test's fake SteamVR stands still, so it turns the check off.
