+Log shows `tls: handshake fail -9984` on every gateway/updater attempt and
+the log timestamps are months behind real time. The console RTC lost its
+date (common after full power loss); -9984 is cert-verify failure because
+the certs look "not yet valid" to a 2025 clock. Current builds step the
