Wings updates itself
From now on you never copy files to update Wings. When a new version is out, Wings tells you when it starts and opens an update page with four steps:
- Check - finds the new version.
- Download - downloads it and checks it against the published SHA-256, with progress and Cancel.
- Install - puts it in place in a few seconds. Your current version is kept until the new one runs, so nothing is lost if something goes wrong.
- Restart Wings - close Wings and open it again. That's it.
A small helper inside Wings does the file work (the app itself may not write to
/data/homebrew/). It only talks to Wings on the console itself, only downloads this project's official package from GitHub, and quits by itself when done. Details:docs/guides/updating.md.Downloads
- Dropped downloads reconnect by themselves. At high speeds some debrid hosts cut connections; Wings now restarts the download automatically (up to 3 tries without progress, more as long as data keeps flowing) and shows "Reconnecting in 8 s (try 2 of 3)". Real errors (file removed, disk full) are never retried. Switch: Settings > Pegasus DL > Auto-reconnect dropped downloads.
- Circle cancels any waiting screen at once. "Asking Pegasus DL...", checking a link, Download all parts, loading Pegasus: Circle goes back right away, and a request that answers late changes nothing.
- .pkg links download fast, then install. "PKG to PS5" links now go through Pegasus DL's fast download, then install, instead of the PS5's slower downloader. The .pkg is deleted after it installs (Settings > Pegasus DL > Keep PKG files after install). If the fast path is not available, Wings falls back to the PS5's downloader.
Links
- Bad links are remembered. When a link fails for good (file removed, wrong file, broken archive, password never works), Wings marks it on your console and Best stops picking it. The card says "Failed for you on 14 Oct: file removed". Press Triangle on a link card to mark or clear one yourself; Settings > Wings lists them. Marks stay on your console and expire after 60 days.
TorBox
- When TorBox is still preparing a file on its server, Wings now says so and asks again every 30 seconds (Circle stops it) instead of failing.
- Open TorBox website: Settings > Pegasus DL > TorBox opens your TorBox dashboard in the PS5 browser.

Downloads are about twice as fast, at 8 connections
Wings can now speed up Pegasus DL itself. When it sends Pegasus DL to the loader it prepares a patched copy of your own Pegasus DL file and sends that one. Two things change inside it: the write buffer grows from 256 KiB to 2 MiB, and disk writes move off the thread that serves every connection, so one slow write no longer stalls the others. On a PS5, 8 connections now run stably at around 100 MB/s (about 40-60 MB/s before), the same as Orbit Store.
The gain is at 8 connections. Pegasus DL's default is 4 connections and you will see much less there. Set it in Settings > Pegasus DL > Download folder and connections > Download connections > 8.
How it stays safe:
- It only applies to the exact Pegasus DL build it was made for (1.11.0, checked by its SHA-256). Any other file is sent unchanged.
- Your original file is never modified: the patched copy is written next to it, read back and checked byte for byte before it is used, and if anything about that fails the original is sent instead.
- It is marked experimental. Wings never ships a patched Pegasus DL file; it only changes your own copy.
Downloading multi-part games works
"Download all parts" (and the 60-part sets) was timing out and queueing nothing. Fixed and made much more robust:
- A part that times out or is busy is asked again (up to three times, with a short wait between), and the app waits for a provider such as Akirabox, VikingFile, Rootz or 1fichier to finish resolving a part before it asks for the next one.
- If a part keeps failing on its host, Wings tries the same part number on another host that carries the same set (when the numbering matches exactly).
- A part that fails everywhere is skipped and the rest go on. The report lists which parts did not queue, and choosing "Download all" again picks up just those.
- Cancel (Circle) stops after the part in flight, also during a wait. The progress box shows the part, the host and the try number, and its text is no longer cut off.
- Requests that start a download or a provider check now get 30 seconds instead of 8.
Store
- A hero shot on the Store. The featured games are now a full-width banner with the title, View game and a heart, like the Orbit Store home. The first row of games peeks in below it; press Down and the page slides up to the full grid with the search, sort and filters. Left and Right move between featured games. If the project has nothing featured for your catalogue, the most popular games of your catalogue are shown instead. Switch: Settings > Wings > Store extras > Featured carousel.
- One picture, whole. Many games have two good banners (the PS5's own background from Prosperopatches and an IGDB screenshot). The page used to show one for a moment and then swap to the other; now it shows one, sharp from the start, and uses the other one the next time you open that game.
- Known-problem notes. A game page can show a short warning, under the title, when the project lists a known problem for it. The note moves with the header. Switch: Settings > Wings > Store extras > Known-problem notes.
- Game pages open on the picture. The page holds back the blurred cover for a moment when its banner is already on the console, so it opens straight onto the picture.
Setting up
- A download folder from the start. If Pegasus DL has no download folder yet, Wings sets
/data/pegasus-dl/downloadsand asks once, before your first download, to keep it or choose another.

New
- Wings tells you when a newer version exists. It checks this project's latest release when it starts (at most every 6 hours, needs Cover art on) and shows the steps to install it. It never installs itself. Switch: Settings > Wings > Updates. This is the first version that can do it, so after updating to 0.1.1 you will hear about every later release.
- Better game pages. The 16:9 picture behind a game now fills the whole screen, uses the PS5's own background from Prosperopatches for most titles (IGDB and Steam art otherwise), and the picture for the game your cursor rests on is fetched ahead of time so the page opens with it.
- Art sources (Settings > Wings > Art sources): choose cover icons from the catalogue (default) or from Prosperopatches, and the wide game art from all sources (default) or from Prosperopatches only.
- Updating Wings refreshes its data too: popularity data is fetched again on the first start of a new version, and a data file in a newer format tells you to update.
- Settings and the diagnostics report show the exact build.
Fixed / improved
- The "more below" fade on game pages has no visible box edges any more.
- A game list without any art no longer re-downloads popularity data on every start.
- Game-page pictures have a cache budget of their own and cannot push covers out.
