Super Mario Sunshine on the PS5, built on sms-pc-port by chasem-dev, whose work this is. Please star and support that project.

This is still an early release and is not fully tested. Only the start of the game has been played on a PS5. Keep a copy of your save.

    What's new

    • Ready to play. Download the zip, copy the PPSA99312 folder to the console and add your disc image. Nothing to build.
    • The HD texture pack goes in as published. Unpack the UHD pack and the HD extras into mods/textures/. The console halves images over 3072 pixels the first time each one is used and keeps the result, so the first visit to an area loads a little slower (Delfino Plaza: 9 seconds the first time, about 6 after) and every visit after that is quick.

    What you need

    • A PS5 that runs homebrew (etaHEN, ShadowMountPlus, an FTP server)
    • Your own disc image of the game: North America, GMSE01 revision 0, as .iso, .gcm or .ciso

    How to install

    • Download and unzip Sunshine-PS5-v0.10.0.zip
    • Copy the PPSA99312 folder into /data/homebrew/ on the console
    • Copy your disc image into that folder, beside eboot.bin
    • Optional: the HD textures, as the README describes

Updating: copy the new PPSA99312 folder over the old one. Your saves, settings, disc image and texture packs are left alone.

    What is not in it

    • No game data. The title reads everything from your disc image.
    • No texture packs; they belong to their authors and are downloaded from them.

    Known problems

    • Only the start of the game has been played
    • Bianco Hills has not yet been played with the console doing the texture halving itself
    • A save state loads exactly only in the release that saved it; in a newer one it puts Mario back where he was and keeps your progress, but the level starts afresh
    • Camera shake is off to begin with; turn it on in the settings menu for the original feel

The second release of the builder kit for Super Mario Sunshine on the PS5, built on sms-pc-port by chasem-dev, whose work this is. Please star and support that project.

This is still an early release and is not fully tested. Only the start of the game has been played on a PS5. Keep a copy of your save.

    What's new

    • Save states, from sms-pc-port, tested on the console. Hold L1 and press R1 in a level to save the moment. Pause and press L1 + R1 to see your states, each with a picture, and load one. They are kept in userdata/savestates.
    • A faster map. sms-pc-port's fix for the wipe into the map (R1) makes one copy of the screen a frame instead of about 80.
    • No Docker. The kit builds directly on a Mac with Apple silicon, on Linux, and on Windows in WSL. On a Mac it fetches the compiler (LLVM 22) and its build tools from their own releases the first time, checks each download, and keeps them. On Ubuntu and WSL, LLVM 22 comes from apt.llvm.org. ./make-title.sh --docker still builds in a container if you prefer.
    • Optional HD textures without Docker too. make-texture-pack.sh fetches the Python packages it needs itself.
    • sms-pc-port updated to its revision of 2026-10-14 (c8fb4a3).

    What you need

    • A PS5 that runs homebrew (etaHEN, ShadowMountPlus, an FTP server)
    • Your own disc image of the game: North America, GMSE01, as .iso, .gcm or .ciso
    • A Mac with Apple silicon (with Apple's Command Line Tools), Windows 10 or 11 with WSL, or Linux on x86-64 or arm64

    How to use it

    • Download and unzip sunshine-ps5-kit-0.9.0.zip
    • Get your computer ready once (the kit's README.md has the commands for each system)
    • Run ./make-title.sh in its folder (5 to 20 minutes)
    • Copy out/PPSA99312 to /data/homebrew/ on the console, and your disc image into it

Updating from 0.8.0: build the new kit and copy out/PPSA99312 over the old folder. Your saves, settings, disc image and texture packs are left alone.

    What is not in it

    • No game code and no game data. The kit downloads the public source code and compiles it on your machine; the title it makes is yours to play, not to share.
    • No texture packs. make-texture-pack.sh downloads the UHD pack from its authors and makes the console's copy.

    Known problems

    • Only the start of the game has been played
    • A save state loads exactly only in the build that saved it; after a rebuild it puts Mario back where he was and keeps your progress, but the level starts afresh
    • The kit was built end to end on a Mac (Apple silicon) and on Linux (arm64), and the Mac's title played on the console. On x86-64 Linux, each step that differs was checked (LLVM's build runs, game code compiles identically, eboot.bin comes out byte for byte the same), but no whole build has run there or in WSL
    • The --docker route was not run for this release
    • Texture packs with images larger than 2048 pixels must be shrunk (the kit does it)
    • Camera shake is off to begin with; turn it on in the settings menu for the original feel

Do not take PS5 problems to sms-pc-port: report them here.

DieMitchell released this 2026-10-14 00:00:45 +02:00 | 3 commits to main since this release

The first release: a builder kit for Super Mario Sunshine on the PS5, built on sms-pc-port by chasem-dev, whose work this is. Please star and support that project.

This is an early release and is not fully tested. It was played on one console for one day, through Delfino Plaza and the first episode of Bianco Hills. Everything after that is unplayed on a PS5. Keep a copy of your save.

    What you get

    • Super Mario Sunshine running natively on the PS5 at 3840x2160 and 60 frames a second
    • The DualSense's own button prompts
    • A settings menu on the touch pad's button: inverted FLUDD aim and camera, camera shake, a performance overlay, resolution, frame rate
    • Optional HD textures, sized for the console by a script in the kit

    What you need

    • A PS5 that runs homebrew (etaHEN, ShadowMountPlus, an FTP server)
    • Your own disc image of the game: North America, GMSE01, as .iso, .gcm or .ciso
    • A computer with Docker and an internet connection

    How to use it

    • Download and unzip sunshine-ps5-kit-0.8.0.zip
    • Run ./make-title.sh in its folder (5 to 20 minutes)
    • Copy out/PPSA99312 to /data/homebrew/ on the console, and your disc image into it

The kit's README.md has every step, the controls and the Windows commands.

    • Texture packs with images larger than 2048 pixels must be shrunk (the kit does it), or loads take 17 seconds and the console can run out of memory
    • Camera shake is off to begin with; turn it on in the settings menu for the original feel
    • The container route (make-title.sh) was not run before release: the same build script was tested directly on Linux

Do not take PS5 problems to sms-pc-port: report them here.
