Usage statistics
- If you have usage statistics on, installs, updates and daily opens now include your country as a two-letter code, such as
DE. Frame Control works it out on your computer from the time zone setting. The time zone itself isn't sent, and neither is your address. A setting that isn't one country's zone, such as UTC, sends nothing. - Because this adds something new, the privacy notice is shown once more if you saw an earlier one. Until you've seen it, no country is sent. You can turn usage statistics off in Privacy & updates at any time. What's sent

2026-10-13 08:18:52 +02:00 | 62 commits to main since this releaseFrame Control 0.4.5 makes Android installs sturdier, and the Comfort tab lighter on the headset. Copies of 0.4.0 and later offer this update by themselves.

Fixed
- Large Android apps on slow Wi-Fi: copying an APK to the headset used to give up after 10 minutes, whatever its size. Large APKs now get more time to copy.
- Installs that failed with a strange error: unusual characters in the headset's or ssh's output no longer stop an install. A damaged APK now says it can't be read, instead of a server error.
- Leftovers after a failed update: a part-copied APK no longer stays on the headset, taking space, when updating an app fails.
- Comfort tab: it no longer keeps trying the headset every few seconds while it's asleep or away, and picks up again when the headset is back. Each check is also much smaller: the helper is kept on the headset instead of being sent with every check.
- Changed host key banner: reasons are no longer cut short or end in two full stops, the Refresh button stays inside the window, and the headset you switch to stays selected in the Devices tab.
Usage statistics
- If you have usage statistics on, Frame Control now counts headsets as well as installs: a one-way hash of the headset's machine ID, worked out on the headset, plus how many headsets you've set up. It can't be turned back into the ID or a serial number. What's sent
- Failed Android installs are sorted into clearer reasons (Steam not running, artwork failed, copy timed out, …), so the most common problems can be fixed first.

Frame Control 0.4.4 Stable
released this
2026-10-12 06:36:27 +02:00 | 72 commits to main since this releaseFrame Control 0.4.4 lets you get back into a headset whose SSH key changed, without editing files. Copies of 0.4.0 and later offer this update by themselves.

- macOS: run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Frame Control.app"once. - Windows: SmartScreen may warn. Choose More info → Run anyway.
Fixed
- "REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED": after a SteamOS reinstall or reset, Frame Control used to stop connecting. Now it explains what happened and offers Check the new key…. That shows the saved key next to the new one, and how to read the key on the headset itself. Only after you confirm, This is my headset: trust its new key saves it. A changed key is never accepted silently.
- "No host key is known … strict checking": a new headset no longer fails while its key is first being saved. If a headset's saved key goes missing, Frame Control asks you to check it rather than trusting whatever answers.
- "Permission denied": when the headset doesn't accept this computer's key, the Devices tab says so and offers Set Up Connection… to pair again.
- These connection problems are reported at most once each time Frame Control runs, instead of repeatedly.

Frame Control 0.4.3 Stable

- macOS: run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Frame Control.app"once. - Windows: SmartScreen may warn. Choose More info → Run anyway.
Fixed
- Android tab: clicking an app shows its page again. Since 0.4.0 it opened an empty box that looked like a thin line (#68).
- Desktop view: Capture and Control find the headset's desktop again. Instead of a bare "No app panel found", they now explain what's wrong and what to try (#73).
- Desktop view on slow or unusual SteamOS builds: finding panels is faster. It looks at more places for the desktop, and if the headset is slow to answer it gives up within 12 seconds and says so.
- Clipboard: pasting while the headset's desktop isn't running gives a clear message. It's no longer reported as an error.
Thanks to everyone who reported these.

Frame Control 0.4.2 Stable
released this
2026-10-08 11:20:54 +02:00 | 100 commits to main since this releaseFrame Control 0.4.2 fixes VR app installs on Windows, plus other problems found through usage statistics and problem reports. Copies of 0.4.0 and 0.4.1 offer this update by themselves.
Download Windows 10/11 (x64) Frame-Control-Setup-x64.exe, or the portableFrame-Control-win-x64.zipmacOS (Apple Silicon) Frame-Control-mac-arm64.dmgLinux x64 Frame-Control-linux-x86_64.AppImage, orFrame-Control-linux-amd64.debLinux arm64 Frame-Control-linux-arm64.AppImage, orFrame-Control-linux-arm64.debUnsigned builds:
- macOS: run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Frame Control.app"once. - Windows: SmartScreen may warn. Choose More info → Run anyway.
Fixed
- Windows: VR Android apps install again. The Windows installer silently left out the OpenXR compatibility layer, so every VR APK install failed immediately with "the OpenXR compatibility layer isn't built". The layer now arrives with the installer. If it's ever missing, the app still installs and tells you which apps may not start.
- Installing an APK built for the wrong processor now tells you which file to download (the arm64-v8a or universal one). These failures no longer mark the app as broken for everyone else.
- The update banner's "release notes" link opens the right page. In 0.4.0 it pointed at a page that didn't exist.
- Linux: the app's server no longer crashes now and then when it's told to stop.
Better problem reports
- Report a problem now includes a short connection summary in fixed words: what stage connecting failed at and why, which kinds of address were tried, and which ssh is installed. It never includes addresses, host names, user names or a custom headset name (privacy).
- Fewer error reports: while your headset is off, Frame Control sends a connection error at most once each time it runs, instead of every few seconds.
Thanks to everyone who sent a problem report or left usage statistics on.

Frame Control 0.4.1 Stable
released this
2026-10-08 10:00:46 +02:00 | 120 commits to main since this releaseFrame Control 0.4.1 fixes problems people reported from 0.4.0, mostly on Windows. Copies of 0.4.0 offer this update by themselves.
Download Windows 10/11 (x64) Frame-Control-Setup-x64.exe, or the portableFrame-Control-win-x64.zipmacOS (Apple Silicon) Frame-Control-mac-arm64.dmgLinux x64 Frame-Control-linux-x86_64.AppImage, orFrame-Control-linux-amd64.debLinux arm64 Frame-Control-linux-arm64.AppImage, orFrame-Control-linux-arm64.debUnsigned builds:
- macOS: run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Frame Control.app"once. - Windows: SmartScreen may warn. Choose More info → Run anyway.
Fixed
- Windows: a headset that connects fine in a terminal is now found by the app too. When the headset's address was a local IPv6 one, Windows' ssh couldn't use the form the app passed it.
- Windows: Frame Control no longer gets locked out with "Bad owner or permissions on ….ssh\config". It now keeps that file private when it changes it, and repairs it if ssh refuses it.
- Windows: Remote desktop signs in as
steamos. If the Frame doesn't answer, the app says why instead of claiming it opened. - Windows: connecting, copying files and setting up keys no longer hang with some OpenSSH versions.
- The server no longer crashes when it's told to stop. If it stops after running for a while, the app restarts it, and the error page has a Try Again button.
New
- Screenshots: a Copy button, a right-click menu (open, copy, show in folder, copy path), and new shots appear without refreshing.
- Report a problem can include a contact email, with separate opt-ins for update emails and follow-up questions (privacy).
Thanks to everyone who sent a problem report.

2026-10-04 07:34:33 +02:00 | 158 commits to main since this releaseFrame Control now updates itself, and does much more with the headset. 0.4.0 checks for new versions and installs them with one click. It also streams your Mac's windows into the Frame, runs Quest VR apps, lets you type and point from your phone or computer, and manages more than one headset. This is the last version you have to download by hand.
Download Windows 10/11 (x64) Frame-Control-Setup-x64.exe, or the portableFrame-Control-win-x64.zipmacOS (Apple Silicon) Frame-Control-mac-arm64.dmgLinux x64 Frame-Control-linux-x86_64.AppImage, orFrame-Control-linux-amd64.debLinux arm64 Frame-Control-linux-arm64.AppImage, orFrame-Control-linux-arm64.debUnsigned builds:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Frame Control.app"once. - Windows: SmartScreen may warn. Choose More info → Run anyway.
New in 0.4.0
- Updates itself. It checks GitHub for a newer release, verifies the download and installs it (macOS app bundle, Windows installer, Linux AppImage).
- Several headsets, each with several addresses (home Wi-Fi,
.local, Tailscale). A new Devices tab, and a status pill that shows the network, the address and each step of connecting as it happens. - Mac in the headset: each Mac window or screen as its own panel in the Frame, with laser pointing and the Mac's keyboard. Quality adapts to your Wi-Fi.
- Type and point in the Frame from your phone or computer. Frame Control brings its own KDE Connect for the Frame, so there's nothing else to install.
- Run Quest and other VR Android apps. Frame Control detects them, fixes their launcher and adds an OpenXR 1.1 compatibility layer. Open Brush runs; Wolvic starts, then its own browser engine crashes. Apps that check for a Quest store licence won't run.
- When an Android app is too new for the Frame, it offers older versions that install.
- One search across F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid and more, with proper Steam library artwork.
- iPhone and iPad app: the same controls from your phone, served from the Frame. Not on the App Store yet; build it from the repo with Xcode (how).
- Family and comfort: session limits, break reminders, battery and heat alerts, and casting the headset view.
- A panel switcher, a VR performance overlay, and a media player with a theatre mode for 3D video and stills.
- Assistant tools (MCP) with a human approval for every change.
- Tabs, a single offline message, installs that carry on in the background, and drop files anywhere.
- Report a problem from inside the app. Anonymous usage statistics are on after a first-run notice and can be turned off; error details and compatibility results are opt-in (what is sent).
Fixed
- Mirroring your Mac fits the whole desktop in the panel, asks for the right password, and shows the cursor (thanks @fbl100).
Not in this release: PC in the headset for Windows and Linux (not yet tested on real desktops) and eye tracking / heart rate (still in progress).

- APKs are read by a built-in parser. No
aapt2or Android SDK needed. - Python and
adbare bundled on macOS and Windows, so the app needs nothing else installed. - Sideload Linux and Windows game builds as Steam Devkit Games.
