video2webxr 2.0.0 Stable
released this
2026-10-06 05:02:42 +02:00 | 22 commits to main since this releaseFirst release of video2webxr, a continuation of EnableYoutubePCVR that now works beyond YouTube.
Highlights
- Works again in current Chrome. Entering VR no longer leaves the headset blank with a "not responding" message from SteamVR.
- Any site, not just YouTube. Click the toolbar button on a page with a video to get an Enter VR panel. Defaults to 180° 3D side by side, the most common VR video format.
- Projection picker. A dropdown next to Enter VR switches between 360° (EAC, cubemap, equirectangular, mono and 3D), 180° (mono and 3D side by side) and a flat virtual screen, also while in VR.
- YouTube VR180 and 360° videos display correctly. The extension no longer pretends to be the Oculus browser, which made YouTube send VR180 videos as flat 16:9.
Other changes
- Videos are centered in front of you instead of 90° to the left.
- Switching to another YouTube video closes VR cleanly, so the cardboard icon works on the next video.
- Explains why a video can't be used (DRM or cross-origin) instead of showing a black sphere.
- No longer rewrites network requests. The extension runs on YouTube, and on other sites only after you click the toolbar button.
- New openly licensed icons (Tabler Icons, MIT).
